Garden Masters: Reimagining and Redefining the Urban Garden

Far Rockaway, NY , United States
The Garden by the Bay

Join 2022 Garden Conservancy grant recipients The Garden by the Bay as they invite you to toast the transformation of a vacant lot into a trailblazing community garden. This event celebrates the opening of the Testbeds pilot project, a structure that will serve as a shed, greenhouse, and community space for years to come. Testbeds, the brainchild of the award-winning New York-based architectural design studio New Affiliates and historian Samuel Stewart-Halevy, upcycles full-scale architecture mockups of building facades and turns them into structures that can be utilized by community gardens. Enjoy refreshments and hors d’oeuvres as you learn about the history and expansion of community gardens and hear from the Testbeds team about their broader vision for mockup reuse in New York City’s 500 plus community gardens. Join the gardeners for a tour of the garden and discuss its vital importance within the community of Edgemere as they seek to address food insecurity and environmental and social inequities in the post-hurricane Sandy Rockaways.
