McKim, Mead & White was the preeminent American architectural firm in the later 19th century. While based in New York, they have deep ties to Boston and New England, with some of their best known work such as the Boston Public Library and their shingled and Colonial Revival houses changed the course of the American architecture. This talk will consider their architecture in various sites such as Boston, Maine and Rhode Island. Richard Guy Wilson is Commonwealth Professor emeritus in Architectural History at the University of Virginia and Director of the VSA's Newport Summer School.
