CFP: AASL 2023

The Association of Architecture School Librarians is extending the deadline for the call for proposals to Friday, December 9th to help you get your creative juices flowing.

Are you a scholar working with librarians on curriculum or research practices? Then you have contributions to make to the AASL conference and we look forward to your ideas.

Are you thinking about what you can contribute to the AASL conference this year? Do you have ideas and are not sure? Are you noodling on an idea and need some food for thought? The conference program group is happy to help you by offering ideas and direction about content, format and local contacts. We can assist with developing your ideas and also offer some directions to think about.

Here is some fare for deliberation:

Consider building on discussions and ideas gleaned from last year’s conference, Empower.  The content is now un-embargoed and available to peruse and share: https://architecturelibrarians.org/2022-Virtual-Conference/

How can we think about the concept of land acknowledgement in a more meaningful way as librarians?

The Indigenous Design + Planning Institute is an initiative of the School of Architecture + Planning, University of New Mexico, with the goal to educate and inform indigenous design and planning to develop culturally responsive practices.  What can we as librarians in the architecture and planning fields take from approaches outlined by the institute?

What is the role of libraries in responding to the external forces of society on higher education?

What is a pressing issue that you face in your work that is helping you re-think your role as a librarian?

We look forward to your submissions, and are excited by the opportunities for us at our conference!

Conference programming will include different formats: lightning-talks, conference papers, group workshops, and discussion panels. We will also have some great tours and other opportunities to connect with each other.

Proposers can opt for the proposal to be a lightning talk or a presentation.

  • Lightning Talks: 5-minute presentations limited to 15 images/slides at 20 seconds each
  • Conference Paper Presentations: 15-minute presentations, with five additional minutes for audience questions
  • Group Workshops: 1-hour participatory sessions where the audience gets to explore a new tool or process using their laptops
