SAH is now accepting abstracts for its 66th Annual Conference in Buffalo, NY, April 10-14, 2013. Please submit abstracts for papers no later than June 1st for one of the 29 thematic sessions or the open session. Sessions have been selected to cover topics across all time periods and architectural styles. SAH encourages submissions from architectural, landscape, and urban historians; museum curators; preservationists; independent scholars; architects; and members of partner organizations. Roundtable Discussion: "Reimagining Detroit"
In recent years, media reports have often singled out Detroit as an American city on the brink of ruin. At the same time, many Detroit natives have come to see this as a moment that is full of opportunities for positive change. Sue Mosey, President of Midtown Detroit, and Tom Woiwode, of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, will participate in this discussion on the process that Detroit Free Press reporter John Gallagher has dubbed “Reimagining Detroit.” Open to the public, $15. |

The feedback on the current SAH website was varied, but most agreed that the website was too cluttered/busy, a little outdated, and that the navigation was difficult to follow. We're working on it! |

| Obituaries
Oleg Grabar, professor emeritus at the School of Historical Studies, Institute of Advanced Study, Princeton, and intellectual mentor to many students of Islamic art and architecture here and abroad, died on January 8, 2011 at the age of 81. Grabar was responsible for introducing several generations of Americans, including students, scholars, and the general public, to the largely unfamiliar arts and architecture of the Islamic lands. The early death of André Alexander, who suffered a heart attack in Berlin on January 21 at the age of 47, comes as a grievous loss to all those concerned with conservation, heritage and cultural renovation in the Tibetan cultural area. In 1993 he founded the Lhasa Archive Project and, together with Andrew Brannan, produced a detailed inventory of the 400 historic buildings then remaining in the Lhasa Old Town. |
