Executive Director's Recap of the SAH 65th Annual Conference
More than 640 SAH members participated in the Society’s 65th Annual Conference in Detroit (April 18-22, 2012), the second largest conference attendance since SAH celebrated its 50-year anniversary in Boston in 1990. SAH Archipedia: Beta Site
The SAH Archipedia Beta Site is now up and running. This project is a collaboration between SAH and the University of Virginia Press on an interactive, media-rich online encyclopedia of American architecture. Please take a moment to visit the site, which currently contains 500 illustrated and mapped building entries. Over the summer, we will be adding another 10,500 building entries for the full launch on October 1, 2012.

2011 SAHARA Fellowship Recipients 
Congratulations to our 2011 SAHARA Travel Fellowship Award winners. Matthew Woodworth took a suite of photographs of Medieval churches in Venice. Lawrence Chua photographed public buildings from the People’s Party in Thailand, 1932-1957. SAH members can view either recipients photos or contribute their own at sah.org/sahara

Call for Nominations for SAH Fellows and SAH Board:
The SAH Board of Directors and the 2013 SAH Nominating Committee seek your recommendations for new board members and for the 2013 class of SAH Fellows. 

SAH CFP Deadline: June 1st   
The deadline for submitting abstracts to the SAH 66th Annual Conference in Buffalo, NY is June 1, 2012. 

Chapter Events:

  • May 26: "Ray Kappe: Apotheosis" The Southern California Chapter of SAH presents this rare opportunity to visit five early residences by Ray Kappe, FAIA. Spanning from 1956 to 1966, the Royal Woods and adjacent houses are the stepping-stones that lead to quintessential Kappe.
  • June 2: "Spring Tour: Owatonna" The Minnestoa Chapter of SAH will be visiting the National Farmers’ Bank by Louis Sullivan, the Gainey House by Edwin Lundie, and the Winton Guest House by Frank Gehry, among other architecturally significant sites!
  • June 5: "Living Casually in the Mid-Century American House" Lecture by James A. Jacobs, PhD The Latrobe Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians, June 5, 2012
  • June 14: Chistopher Vernon on his recent book, Graceland Cemetery: A Design History The Chicago Chapter of SAH presents this lecture with Christopher Vernon and John Notz at the Charnley-Persky House in Chicago on June 14, 2012 from 5:30-7:30pm

SAH May Booklist and May Exhibition Booklist: Recently published architectural books and related works. The Booklist and Exhibition Booklist are selected by Barbara Opar, Architecture Librarian, Syracuse University Library.
