In 2012 SAH will celebrate the 120th anniversary of Charnley-Persky House, the Society’s headquarters. We invite you to celebrate the multifaceted history of this modern masterpiece by attending this year’s series of lectures and events.
Our first 2012 lecture, on February 23, will be by Rebecca Graff, the University of Chicago anthropologist who conducted an archaeological dig on the narrow strip of land behind Charnley-Persky House, to unearth artifacts from a 19th century rubbish dumpsite.
Events later in the year will include the following: a lecture by Edward Wolner about Henry Ives Cobb, the 19th century Chicago architect who designed numerous Gothic buildings at University of Chicago as well as houses neighboring Charnley-Persky House; a Pecha Kucha event on architecture and design, organized by architect Peter Exley; a salon on how digital mapping projects reveal new insights about Chicago, organized by sociologist and architectural photographer David Schalliol; and on November 10 a Gala Benefit at Chicago’s Racquet Club to raise funds for the continued restoration of Charnley-Persky House.
