SAH Benefit Raises Funds for Outreach Projects

We honored Chicago Cultural Icons John Vinci of Vinci-Hamp Architects, Mary Zimmerman of Lookingglass and Goodman Theatres and Sophia Siskel of the Chicago Botanic Garden as individuals who incorporate architecture and design into Chicago’s cultural life. Mr. & Mrs. Laurence O. Booth, Stanley Tigerman and Margaret McCurry served as Gala Chairs.  Over 180 guests, including many Chicago architects, historians and preservation professionals attended an evening of awards, hors d’oeuvres, silent and live auctions.  Geoffrey Baer of WTTW hosted the awards, presented by the Society’s President, Dianne Harris, and Executive Director, Pauline Saliga. 

The highlight of the evening was the live auction of a 1971 Richard Nickel photograph of the Chicago Stock Exchange Building just prior to demolition, and a personalized copy of John Vinci and Ward Miller’s seminal work:  The Complete Works of Adler & Sullivan.

The event raised $27,000.00 for the Society’s outreach programs, including a K-12 curriculum about architectural history, the Buildings of the United States series published by SAH, and ongoing preservation of SAH’s headquarters, the Charnley-Persky House.
