Announcing New Content in SAH Archipedia

This includes all 857 entries from the revised edition of Buildings of Michigan by Kathryn Eckert (University of Virginia Press, 2012). You’ll also find 514 new building entries from a variety of other states that were delayed as we verified their latitude and longitude coordinates for the Google Earth maps that illustrate each building entry.  Also added are 75 new photographs. Entries from the revised Buildings of Michigan represent the state’s full spectrum of high-style and vernacular architecture, from the Greek, Gothic, Italianate, Queen Anne, and Richardsonian Romanesque structures of the nineteenth century to the international, renowned modern buildings of the mid-twentieth century and the green and sustainable buildings of the twenty-first century. (For examples, see the entries for One Detroit Center and the Octagon Barn of the James L. and Cora Warner Purdy Farm).

We are grateful for large photography contributions from many SAH members including Damie Stillman, former BUS editor in chief; Richard Longstreth, professor of American studies and director of the graduate program in historic preservation at George Washington University; Richard Guy Wilson, chair of and Commonwealth Professor of Architectural History at the University of Virginia; Keith Morgan, director of architectural studies at Boston University; Peter Vanderwarker, renowned architectural photographer; and the Architectural Archives of the University of Pennsylvania, headed by William Whitaker.

SAH Archipedia currently includes about 2,400 entries. We expect that SAH Archipedia will continue to grow quickly over the next two years, and we welcome photography contributions.
