Ann Whiteside Wins VRA's Nancy DeLaurier Award for SAHARA Work

The Visual Resources Association (VRA) presented the winners of the organization’s highest honors at a Membership and Awards Dinner on March 13, 2014, at the Visual Resources Association‘s 32nd annual conference, held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 

VRA presented the Nancy DeLaurier Award for distinguished achievement in the field of visual resources to Ann Baird Whiteside of Harvard University. Whiteside was honored for her leadership in the development and implementation of the Society of Architectural Historians’ SAHARA Project.
 
SAHARA, funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, was developed by the Society of Architectural Historians in collaboration with ARTstor. It currently contains more than 47,000 images of architecture and landscapes contributed by SAH members—architects, scholars, photographers, graduate students, preservationists, and others who share an interest in the built environment.  

Elaine Paul remarks, “Congratulations go to Ann Whiteside, this year’s recipient of the Nancy DeLaurier Award. Her vision, leadership, and hard work led to the SAHARA project, the digital image archive developed by the Society of Architectural Historians in collaboration with ARTstor.”
