The New York Botanical Garden announces their summer exhibition, Groundbreakers: Great American Gardens and the Women Who Designed Them, on view through September 7. This Garden-wide exhibition celebrates early 20th-century America's most influential women in landscape architecture and design as well as garden photography.
In conjunction with the Groundbreakers exhibition, The New York Botanical Garden's Humanities Research Institute will celebrate it's inaugural symposium "Women and the City–From a Landscape Perspective" on June 20 from 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Award-winning author and landscape historian Thaisa Way, ASLA, will lead a fascinating session with four experts in landscape scholarship and practice that examines the ways women have influenced how we look at—and live in—the modern city.
Thaisa Way has been an SAH member since 2001, and has been a President of the SAH Landscape Chapter. Fellow SAH members Mary Woods and Sonja Duempelmann are also participating in the symposium.
