Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Thanks to your generous support, SAH’s 75th Anniversary year was very successful and full of anniversary-themed activities, accolades, and reminisces. But we cannot rest on our laurels. We’re asking you to help us now as we embark on the next 75 years of maintaining SAH’s role as the leading organization promoting the study of the built environment internationally.
Your contribution to the SAH Annual Fund helps the Society deliver resources and opportunities to professionals in the field, graduate students, and contingency faculty through programs such as:
- SAH Annual International Conference with hundreds of opportunities to present new research, discuss new ideas, and network with old friends and new connections. The 2015 Annual International Conference drew record attendance of 800 in Chicago, and we anticipate the same for 2016 in Pasadena/Los Angeles;
- Fellowships and Awards providing over $170,000 to more than 60 individuals last year with financial support for publications, study travel, research, and attendance at conferences;
- Award-winning Publications, including JSAH, Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians, the leading journal of architectural history in both print and electronic formats, and Buildings of the United States, a print series chronicling the architecture of each of the 50 states. SAH published Buildings of North Dakota and Buildings of Virginia: Valley, Piedmont, Southside and Southwest in 2015, and our city guide Buildings of Savannah will come out in spring 2016;
- International Study Programs providing in-depth study of architecturally and culturally rich locations around the world, such as the 2015 SAH Field Seminar,
"Architecture of the Rio de la Plata Basin"; - Online Resources including SAH Archipedia, an encyclopedia of American architecture that draws on the scholarship in the BUS volumes, and SAHARA, a digital archive of images of architecture and landscapes, contributed by SAH members—architects, scholars, photographers, graduate students, preservationists, and others who share an interest in the built environment.
Providing invaluable resources to its members is the core of SAH programming, as well as promoting the study of the built environment and its role in shaping contemporary life.
Donate to the SAH Annual Fund today to keep SAH vital in the coming year. Your donation of any amount is a greatly appreciated. We wish you a happy holiday season and a healthy New Year.
Sincerely,
Kenneth A. Breisch, SAH President
Pauline Saliga, SAH Executive Director
