 | SAH Receives NEH Grant for SAH Archipedia The Society of Architectural Historians has been awarded a third major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to commission new content and site enhancements to SAH Archipedia, a media-rich online encyclopedia of American architecture developed by SAH in collaboration with the University of Virginia Press.

 | Hawaii Field Seminar Don J. Hibbard, author of Buildings of Hawaii, will lead an SAH Field Seminar in Hawaii from September 23 to October 2, 2016. The seminar will explore the distinct built environment of Honolulu, with a focus on its twentieth-century buildings. Itinerary, pricing, and details are now available. Registration will open on Tuesday, May 24, at 3 pm CDT.

 | Recap of the SAH 69th Annual International Conference The SAH Pasadena conference had a record number of participants. Seven hundred and thirty-eight SAH members participated in the Society’s 69th Annual International Conference that took place in Pasadena, California, from April 6–10, 2016. Attendees hailed from 36 countries and 42 states. A brief recap of the conference’s events follows.

 | Work Begins on Charnley-Persky House Conservation Management Plan On April 21, 2016, the SAH staff had its first official meeting to launch a Conservation Management Plan for Charnley-Persky House, SAH’s headquarters. The kick-off meeting, which also included architects from Harboe Associates and all of the contractors involved, was the first of many discussions we will have over the next year about the 125-year-old National Historic Landmark.

 | Recap of April's Public Lectures On April 11, WTTW's Geoffrey Baer and Dan Protess gave a preview of their well-received architectural series, “Ten That Changed America,” at Pella Crafted Luxury's newly opened showroom at the Chicago Merchandise Mart. On April 20, SAH collaborated with The Newberry Library to present “On an Elder’s Trail: The Later Life of Charles M. Charnley,” a talk with Jack Perry Brown, former director of The Ryerson and Burnham Libraries at The Art Institute of Chicago.

 | Call for Nominations to the SAH Board The 2017 SAH Nominating Committee seeks your recommendations for new SAH Board members who would begin their terms after the Glasgow annual conference in June 2017 and would serve until April 2020. The final slate of nominees should represent the diversity of the field of architectural history.

 | Call for Nominations for JSAH Editor SAH invites nominations and self-nominations for the next Editor of JSAH to serve a three-year term: January 1, 2018–December 31, 2020. In order to have sufficient time to review manuscripts and prepare their first issue, the Editor will begin by serving as JSAH Editor Designate beginning Fall 2016. Deadline extended to June 15, 2016.

 | Highlights from SAHARA: Cuba For this month’s SAHARA feature, we celebrate the restoration of diplomatic relations between the United States and Cuba by highlighting Cuban content. This includes photographs taken during the SAH tour to the island in 2012. The collection is particularly strong in images of twentieth-century buildings both before and after the Cuban Revolution but also includes material from the colonial period.

 | SAH Archipedia: Wyoming Entries Addded New material from the state of Wyoming, including fifty entries and an additional thirteen subentries, has been added to SAH Archipedia. This content represents the first half of a list of Wyoming’s most representative buildings and sites, compiled by coordinator Mary M. Humstone.

While in Toledo and Zaragoza, Islamic monuments are part of the discussion, I will generally also focus on the museums that I visited in all three cities although of course, given especially the large number of such institutions in Madrid, this will not be a complete account.

| Federal Tax Change Encourages Charitable Giving Under the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act of 2015, any person who is over 70 ½ can donate to their favorite nonprofit, such as SAH, without triggering any federal income taxes. Under the Qualified Charitable Distribution provision, a person can make a gift from an IRA directly to a charity like SAH rather than withdrawing the money and paying taxes on it. The change makes it easier for seniors to plan their giving over the course of a year and to avoid paying taxes on required distributions from their IRAs. We hope our qualified members will keep SAH in mind as they plan their minimum distributions this year and as they make their estate plans. | SAH Chapter and Partner News Society of Historians of East European, Eurasian, and Russian Art and Architecture (SHERA) supports a double session for emerging scholars at the College Art Association Annual Conference 2017, and has implemented a collaborative Visiting Scholar Program with Department of Art History of European University at St. Petersburg (EUSP) by facilitating a trip for a SHERA member who received a research visa to Russia.
