 | Call for Sessions: SAH 2019 Providence Conference The Society of Architectural Historians will offer a total of 36 paper sessions at its 2019 Annual International Conference in Providence, Rhode Island. The Society invites its members, including graduate students and independent scholars, representatives of SAH chapters and partner organizations, to chair a session at the conference. As SAH membership is required to chair or present research at the annual conference, non-members who wish to chair a session will be required to join SAH next August 2018 when conference registration opens for Session Chairs and Speakers.

 | Call for Proposals: GAHTC Grants By now you must have heard the buzz about the Global Architectural History Teaching Collaborative (GAHTC). It is a free, Mellon-funded online platform for cross-disciplinary, teacher-to-teacher exchanges of ideas and course material to promote the teaching of all periods of global architectural history. Although the growing online resource seems almost too good to be true, JSAH Editor Patricia Morton, SAHARA Co-Editor Jacqueline Spafford, and I participated in a two-day GAHTC workshop at USC in September to learn more about the online academic platform’s opportunities and challenges.

 | SAH Expands Member Benefits in 2017 and 2018 In response to recent feedback from SAH members, we are pleased to announce a host of expanded SAH member benefits below. All of SAH’s existing member benefits remain in place including access to current and archival issues of JSAH (1941-the present), access to all of the Buildings of the United States books as well as new, born-digital content in SAH Archipedia, and the ability to safeguard and share your images for teaching and research through the SAHARA image archive.

 | Donate to the SAH Awards Gala Auction SAH will host its 8th Annual Awards Gala on Friday, November 17, 2017, at the Racquet Club of Chicago. The Awards Gala provides SAH with critical financial resources to carry out its programs locally, nationally, and internationally. Even if you are unable to attend, please consider supporting the Society by donating an architectural object or experience to the gala's silent auction.

Peterson Fellowship In a joint program with the Athenaeum of Philadelphia, SAH is pleased to offer an annual fellowship that will support the participation of a graduate student in the research and writing for a volume in the Buildings of the United States (BUS) series and/or SAH Archipedia, the Society’s online architectural resource.

 | Charnley-Persky House Conservation Management Plan On September 13 of this year, SAH celebrated the completion of a comprehensive conservation management plan (CMP) for Charnley-Persky House, SAH’s landmark headquarters building designed by Louis Sullivan and Frank Lloyd Wright in 1891–1892.

 | SAH 2016 Annual Report In this age of ephemeral digital newsletters and publications, SAH is starting a tradition of creating a PDF Annual Report. Our hope is to better document our own history and we are pleased to launch the SAH Annual Report for FY2015-2016, edited and designed by SAH Director of Communications Helena Dean.

 | World Monuments Fund 2018 Watch List On October 16, the World Monuments Fund (WMF) announced the 2018 World Monuments Watch, presenting cultural heritage sites that face daunting threats, including human conflict, natural disaster, climate change, and urbanization, or present unique conservation opportunities.  | SAH Archipedia: Kansas and New Mexico Entries Added New content has been added to SAH Archipedia. With the addition of ninety entries, Kansas’s 100 Classic Buildings is now complete. From the seventeenth-century archaeological site El Cuartelejo to the LEED-certified buildings of Greensburg, these entries, written by David Sachs, illustrate this Midwestern state’s rich architectural history.

 | SAHARA Highlights: Brick! This month we focus on the many ways one material can be used: the ubiquitous brick. A search for “brick” produces thousands of results, which can then be refined by filters or additional search terms: country, city or region (e.g. brick AND Japan), or by building type or part (e.g. brick AND monument), by creator, date range, and so on.

SAH American Architecture and Landscape Field Trip Program: SAH seeks partners to organize tours of the built environment for our youth-oriented field trip program created to provide opportunities for underserved youths. HABS-SAH Sally Kress Tomkins Fellowship: A joint program of SAH and the National Park Service's Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS), this fellowship permits a graduate student to work on a 12-week HABS history project during the summer of 2018. | SAH Chapter and Partner News The Latrobe Chapter of the Society of the Architectural Historians will host City and Capital: Building Washington, DC as Home and Symbol, the 12th Biennial Symposium on the Historic Development of Metropolitan Washington, DC, at The Catholic University of America, School of Architecture and Planning, October 28, 2017, 8:30 am–4:00 pm. The annual SESAH conference took place in Lynchburg, Virginia, in October with papers, plenaries, and tours aplenty. Look for news of our publication and preservation awards, and plans for 2018 to come! Post-conference opportunities include the new fellowships to support graduate student attendance at SAH Annual International Conference and in support of graduate student research. Fellowship applications are being accepted through December 15. To learn more, visit sesah.org. The St. Louis Chapter of SAH and the Steedman Architectural Library will present "The History of Landscape Architecture in St. Louis" on November 28, with preservation historian Esley Hamilton. The talk is free and open to the public. The talk starts at 6:30 pm and an open house of the Steedman Architectural Library will be held starting at 6:00 pm. The Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA) will host its 46th Annual Conference in New York City, February 25-March 1, 2018, with the theme "Out of Bounds." Registration opens in November. The Construction History Society of America (CHSA) is accepting abstracts for it 2018 Biennial Meeting on Construction History to be held at the University of Maryland, May 24-26. The submission deadline is November 16, 2017. Society of Architectural Historians Great Britain (SAHGB) is accepting abstracts for its 2018 Annual Symposium, Architecture, the Built Environment, and the Aftermath of the First World War, in London, June 9. The submission deadline is October 30, 2017. Society of Historians of Eastern European, Eurasian, and Russian Art and Architecture (SHERA) is pleased to announce a call for submissions for the newly-established SHERA Emerging Scholar Prize. The award aims to recognize and encourage original and innovative scholarship in the field. Applicants must have published an article in a scholarly print or online journal or museum print within the preceding twelve-month period. The 2017 winner will be named at 49th Annual ASEEES Convention. The Vernacular Architecture Forum (VAF) is accepting abstracts for its 2018 Annual Meeting, A Shared Heritage: Urban and Rural Experience on the Banks of the Potomac, May 2-5, in Alexandria, VA.
