New for the SAH 2018 Saint Paul Conference

The Society of Architectural Historians will host its 71^st Annual International Conference in Saint Paul, MN, April 18–22, 2018. We’re excited to welcome our members to Saint Paul for what promises to be a dynamic conference full of opportunities to share research, network, and explore the architecture of the Twin Cities. Below we’ve highlighted important dates and changes so you know what to expect.

• December 19 – Program available online as a PDF

• January 9 – Early registration opens at 3 pm CST

• January 9 – Hotel bookings for SAH room blocks open

• February 20 – Early registration closes at 11:59 pm CST

• February 21 – Registration rates increase and tours-only registration opens to the public

• April 4 – Online registration closes

What’s New for 2018

• The Saint Paul conference will include a total of 48 paper sessions in seven tracks, the largest number to date. The additional track of sessions will run from 5:30–7:40 p.m. on Thursday, April 19.

• There is no limit on capacity for the Opening Night Social Hour on Wednesday, April 18. The event is free and all attendees are welcome to attend. Registration requested.

• The SAH Award Ceremony and Plenary Talk will be held on Friday evening, April 20, instead of Thursday. Attendees will be free to explore Saint Paul Thursday night.

• In addition to a printed copy of the conference program, all attendees will receive a separate booklet with information on conference tours.

• Tours-only registration will no longer include a $25 administrative fee.

• On Tuesday, April 17, the University of St. Thomas has extended an invitation to early arrivals to attend a conversation, reception, and exhibit about the career of Voorsanger Architects PC and the process of creating an archive at St. Thomas to preserve the firm’s architectural legacy.

• On Wednesday afternoon, the Minnesota Chapter of SAH will present a workshop to teach people about how to do short, videotaped oral histories with architects.

• On Thursday afternoon, SAH will host a networking event aimed at conference attendees who self-identify as minorities. The purpose of this event it to provide a forum and support system for those who are underrepresented in the Society’s membership.

• The conference will include the launch of the SAH Architects Council, a new honorific program that recognizes and builds relationships with leading architects who rely on research and support the historic built environment. The Council’s inaugural members will host a roundtable on Friday.
