SAH Makes Four New Grants for Architectural Field Trips

SAH is pleased to announce that it has made grants to four organizations that will administer field trips in 2018 as part of the SAH American Architecture and Landscape Field Trip Program. The program, funded by an anonymous donor, focuses on providing enriching architectural field trips for underserved grade school and high school students. The organizations that received grants follow:
The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation at Taliesin West in Scottsdale, Arizona
The field trip program offered by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation is based on the rationale that the process of creative problem solving and increased aesthetic sensitivity are inherent in Frank Lloyd Wright’s concepts of organic design and architecture. The field trips, designed for local students to travel to Taliesin West, will incorporate the STEAM curriculum, focusing on the art of design and mathematics.
The Glessner House Museum in Chicago, Illinois
Glessner House will run it’s highly successful student Time Travelers program for a second year. The curriculum uses the H. H. Richardson-designed building, Glessner Family collection, and stories of the Glessner House Museum to connect with third graders from Chicago Public Schools. The students will create journals to document their own stories, just as Frances Glessner did on a daily basis, more than 100 years ago.
Historic Columbia in Columbia, South Carolina
Historic Columbia's program will engage junior high and high school students in field trips to explore the unique architecture and built environment of Columbia’s historic Main Street.
We Are the Next
We Are the Next, in Long Beach, California, will offer CITY101: A Crash Course in Life in our Cities. We Are the Next will provide field trips to 100 teens to introduce them to the fields of architecture and historic preservation, while engaging in field trips and activities that build self-esteem and empower students to take ownership of their city and its landscape.
