  Call for Papers: SAH 2019 Providence
The Society of Architectural Historians is now accepting abstracts for its 72nd Annual International Conference in Providence, Rhode Island, April 24–28. Please submit an abstract no later than 11:59 p.m. CDT on June 5, 2018, to one of the 34 thematic sessions, the Graduate Student Lightning Talks or the Open Sessions.

    Preservation Advocacy Updates
Additional letters of support produced by the SAH Heritage Conservation Comittee have been added to the SAH website. Topics include the preservation of the Marine Midland Bank and plaza, preservation of the Fergus Falls State Hospital and support for the continued resonable use of the Antiquities Act of 1906.

    SAHARA Highlights: Las Vegas
In March of 1968, Architectural Forum published an astonishing illustrated article by Robert Venturi and Denise Brown: “A Significance for A&P Parking Lots or Learning from Las Vegas.” The piece opened with the observation that “learning from the existing landscape is a way of being revolutionary for an architect,” a sentiment that seems commonplace enough today but was a provocation in the era of Corbusieran urbanism.

    SAH Archipedia: Wyoming's 100 Classic Buildings Completed
With the addition of 54 entries, SAH is pleased to announce that Wyoming's 100 Classic Buildings is now complete on SAH Archipedia. State coordinator Mary M. Humstone has selected 100 of Wyoming’s most representative buildings and sites, ranging from structures that highlight the state’s scenic and natural resources to industrial and agricultural landscapes that have shaped development throughout the state.

    The Basilica of St. Peter: No Words to Describe

Besides a final report, this is officially the last article of my H. Allen Brooks fellowship year. Understandably, it comes with a cocktail of emotions. I had mentioned in the last article that I will write on my experience at the Vatican this month, but alas, here I am now at a loss for words to express the experience.

Graham Foundation Announces 2018 Grants to Individuals
The Graham Foundation has announced the award of $534,850 for new grants to individuals around the world to support 74 projects engaging original ideas that advance our understanding of the designed environment. The funded projects include exhibitions, publications, films, new media works, and site-specific installations that promote rigorous scholarship, stimulate experimentation, and foster critical discourse in architecture. SAH congratulates the winners of the Graham Foundation's 2018 Grants to Individuals.
 
Current SAH Opportunities
SAH/GAHTC Grants: In partnership with GAHTC, SAH is offering Research-to-Teaching Grants and Field Seminar Travel Grants. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis. 

SAH American Architecture and Landscape Field Trip Program: This program funds architecture and landscape field trips for underserved students in grades 3 through high school. Application deadline June 1.

The Society of Architectural Historians Marion Dean Ross (Pacific Northwest) chapter is pleased to announce that our final conference program for our May 18-20, 2018, annual conference in Astoria is available and registration is open. Society of Historians of Eastern European, Eurasian, and Russian Art and Architecture (SHERA) sponsored a session at 106 CAA Annual Conference, Utopianism and Dystopianism in Russian, Soviet, Eastern European, and Eurasian Art. Thanks to an anonymous donor, SHERA is offering annually two SHERA Graduate Student Travel Grants of 1,500 USD each, for a SHERA member presenter at CAA Annual Conference or ASEEES Annual Convention respectively. Prospective applicants should follow news about deadlines on H-SHERA.
