The Society of Architectural Historians seeks SAH members to serve on one of our many committees that award fellowships and publication and film awards.
If you are interested in serving on any one of the below committees, please submit a two-page CV and a brief statement (no more than 150 words) on why you would like to serve on the committee. You may apply for up to three committees but will be asked to serve on one, if accepted. Please indicate if you have a preference for which committee you would like to serve on if you submit multiple requests.
To submit your interest, log into the SAH website and go to your Member Profile. Under the “Call for Sessions/Awards & Fellowships” section, click on “View Open Calls for Session, Fellowships and Awards,” and click the 2019 Call for Participation link.
The submission deadline is Monday, May 6, at 11:59 p.m. CDT. Notices will be sent out the week of May 20, 2019.

SAH Publication Awards
Books are to be mailed from the publisher June–August. Final decision by December 31. Citation by January 31. More information: sah.org/publication-awards
Alice Davis Hitchcock Book Award
The Alice Davis Hitchcock Book Award was established to recognize annually the most distinguished work of scholarship in the history of architecture published by a North American scholar.
Antoinette Forrester Downing Book Award
The Antoinette Forrester Downing Book Award was established to recognize excellence in a published work devoted to historical topics in preservation.
Philip Johnson Exhibition Catalogue Award
The Philip Johnson Exhibition Catalogue Award was established to recognize excellence in exhibition catalogue scholarship and museum publications.
Spiro Kostof Book Award
This award was established to recognize interdisciplinary studies of urban history that make the greatest contribution to our understanding of the growth and development of cities.
Elisabeth Blair MacDougall Book Award
The Elisabeth Blair MacDougall Book Award was established to recognize the most distinguished work of scholarship in the history of landscape architecture or garden design.
Founders' JSAH Article Award
The Founders' Award is given annually for an article published by an emerging scholar in the preceding two years in the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians that exhibits excellence of scholarship and presentation.
SAH Award for Film and Video
The SAH Award for Film and Video was established in 2013 to recognize annually the most distinguished work of film or video on the history of the built environment. More information: sah.org/film-award
Films are made available June–August. Final decision by December 31. Citation by January 31.
Fellowships
H. Allen Brooks Travelling Fellowship
Supports a graduate student or emerging scholar to study and travel for enrichment for one year. Applications close October 1, available to committee a week later. Decision by December 15.
Edilia and Francois-Auguste de Montêquin Fellowship
Supports travel related research on Spanish, Portuguese, or Ibero-American architecture, including colonial settings. Applications close October 1, available to committee a week later. Decision by November 15.
HABS-SAH Sally Kress Tompkins Fellowship
Allows a graduate student in architectural history or related field to work on a 12-week HABS project during the summer. Applications close December 31, available to committee a week later. Decision by January 31.
Charles E. Peterson Fellowship
Supports the participation of a graduate student in the research and writing of a volume of Buildings of the United States or SAH Archipedia essays. Applications close January 2, available to committee a week later. Decision by January 31.
Annual Conference Fellowships
Subsidizes travel to the annual conference for grad students and scholars who are delivering papers. Applications close September 30, available to committee a week later. Decision by November 1.
Other Committees
SAH Membership and Diversity Committee
Charged with expanding audiences for architectural history, including design and preservation professionals, scholars in adjacent fields, and the interested general public. Committee awards SAH American Architecture and Landscape Field Trip Grants for grades 3-12 underserved students twice per year and devises strategies for increasing SAH membership. One-year commitment.
SAH Nominating Committee
Charged with nominating and reviewing nominations for new board members. One-year commitment.
