Society of Architectural Historians to Meet in Pittsburgh in 2022

The Society of Architectural Historians is pleased to announce that it will hold its 75^th Annual International Conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, April 27–May 1, 2022. Pittsburgh is home to 90 unique neighborhoods, 165 parks, and miles of hiking and biking trails. Once an industrial hub, Pittsburgh is now a leader in the green building movement and a top-10 city for certified green building space.  The city boasts an impressive range of buildings by architects such as H.H. Richardson, Pittsburgh’s first woman architect Elise Mercur, Pittsburgh’s first African American architect Louis Arnett Stuart Bellinger, Walter Gropius, Marcel Breuer, Richard Neutra, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Robert Venturi and Philip Johnson.  Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater is just 60 minutes away in the Laurel Highlands.

The SAH Annual International Conference will bring members together from around the world to share new research on the history of the built environment, participate in roundtables, seminars, and workshops, and explore the architectural and urban fabric of the city. The 2022 annual conference will mark the fourth time SAH has met in Pittsburgh, which was the host city for the 1956, 1985, and 2007 annual meetings.
