Membership Dues Increase (Effective August 1, 2022)

Jul 14, 2022 by SAH News

Dear Colleagues,

After careful and thoughtful review of the financial state of SAH, the SAH Board has decided to increase membership dues to support the long-term health and viability of the organization. This is the first membership dues increase in five years, and most membership levels—including Individual, Student, Joint, Professional Associate, and upper-level categories—will incur modest increases.

We are pleased to continue offering Reduced-Rate and Retired/Emeritus memberships, which we introduced in 2020 in response to the financial hardship that many of our members experienced due to the pandemic. The drastically reduced rates were part of a pilot program that the Board has revaluated after two years.

While many members have benefitted from the reduced rates during the past two years, lowering membership rates by such large amounts has had a negative impact on SAH’s revenues. SAH’s membership count has grown slightly in this period, but our membership revenue declined by 7.5% from 2020 to 2021.

It is financially unsustainable for SAH to continue offering memberships at such deeply discounted rates. Therefore, the Board has decided upon a $25 increase for the Reduced-Rate and Retired/Emeritus memberships, which will provide a 40% membership discount to adjuncts, independent scholars, retirees, and those with contingent employment. Student rates will increase $5, which provides a 63% discount on the Individual rate.

The updated membership rates are listed below:

Individual: $150 digital / $160 print & digital
Student: $55 digital / $65 print & digital
Reduced Rate: $90 digital / $100 print & digital
Retired/Emeritus: $90 digital / $100 print & digital
Joint: $215 digital / $235 print & digital
Professional Associate: $165 + $95 each additional member
Supporting: $255
Patron: $435
Donor: $580

There are no changes to Affiliate, Life, and Benefactor membership rates.

These increases will allow us to build on the progress we’ve made these past two years to expand our free programming (including SAH CONNECTS virtual programs), engage new audiences around the world, and foster a more inclusive culture at SAH. Thank you for your membership support, which is vital to furthering the Society’s educational mission to promote the study, interpretation, and conservation of the built environment worldwide.

Sincerely,

Pauline Saliga, SAH Executive Director
Patricia A. Morton, SAH President
