Dear fellow SAH members,
We are happy to report that the Executive Director Search Committee and our search consultant, Isaacson Miller (IM), have conducted a series of “scoping meetings”—information-gathering discussions with key constituents, among them the SAH board, members of committees, leaders of SAH Affiliate Groups, the Graduate Student Advisory Committee, and the SAH staff. The purpose of these meetings is to ensure that the search committee and IM have a full understanding of the challenges the next Executive Director will face and the context in which they will need to operate. We have been pleased, but not surprised, to hear these colleagues express their profound commitment to the Society. Thanks to all of you who have made the time to participate in these conversations.
As you can imagine, it is not possible to include every SAH member in these scoping meetings. We have, however, developed a survey, so that each of you can share with us your aspirations for the Society and your thoughts about the qualities that our next Executive Director must have. Please take a few minutes to share your thoughts via this survey. We ask that you complete it by July 19.
Our next step will be to use the input gleaned from the survey and from our scoping meetings to develop a position description that will touch upon the Society’s great strengths, chart the many opportunities for creative leadership, and outline the job requirements. As soon as it is ready, we will share that document with you and ask you to circulate it widely within your professional networks. Our goal is to build as robust and diverse a candidate pool as we possibly can.
As always, if you have questions or concerns, please write to us at SAHEDSearch@sah.org.
