Join the Victorian Society in America for the next lecture in our FREE online series! Architectural historian Richard Guy Wilson will be speaking on the Prairie School of architecture on April 23rd at 3pm ET.
Originally known as the “New School of the Mid-West," the term "Prairie School" was invented in the 1960s and consists of architects, landscape architects and designers who created a regional style/expression. Led by Louis Sullivan, Frank Lloyd Wright, and their followers such as George Grant Elmslie, Walter Burley Griffin, Marion Mahony and others, they created unique buildings and decorative arts in the period 1900-1920. This talk will treat notable designs from the mid-west including the Rock Crest-Rock Glen in Mason City, and one of America’s greatest court houses, in Sioux City, Iowa. Richard Guy Wilson is Commonwealth Professor emeritus in Architectural History at the University of Virginia and Director of the VSA's Newport Summer School.
