We are pleased to open registration for our conference, Housing Blocs: Ordinary Modernism Across the Atlantic, taking place May 20-22 in Chicago, Illinois USA. The conference bridges the Cold War geography of mass housing through keynote lectures by Vladimir Kulić and Lawrence Vale, 20 papers and presentations and tours of Chicago public housing sites. Papers span themes and sites in the United States, Serbia, Croatia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Northern Ireland and Cuba, and illuminate ways in which the postwar world shared links even across the “Iron Curtain,” as well as how the preservation problems facing sites across the Atlantic today are sometimes suprisingly similar.
