ᐊᖏᕐᕋᒧᑦ / Ruovttu Guvlui / Towards Home, an Indigenous-led exhibition and publication project, explores how Inuit, Sámi, and other communities across the Arctic are creating self-determined spaces. It is informed by the perspectives of a group of Inuit, Sámi, and settler co-curators who share the ambition to support northern Indigenous forms of sovereignty shaped by an understanding of the land as home. The project examines and celebrates practices of designing and building on the land that empower Indigenous communities.
Please note that we are taking extra precautions at events, beyond what is required by the government, so we can welcome as many people as possible inside the CCA safely. Vaccine passports and masks are required, except in Parc Baile.
The day unfolds in three parts around the central questions of the exhibition. What does it mean for Indigenous peoples to design with and be at home on the land? What could home become—across Inuit Nunangat, Sápmi, and the North—when home is defined by Indigenous architects and designers? And where do homelands begin?
Each part includes an introduction to the exhibition by co-curators and contributors, moments in the galleries where artists, co-curators, and designers explain their work, and a conversation in the Shaughnessy House where your questions are very welcome.
There’s no need to reserve, but perhaps a particular theme will interest you.
