The conference "Researching beyond words. Investigating architectural research by drawing" is to be held on 30 November and 1 December 2023 at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Lyon (France). The conference invites us to focus on what researchers produce beyond words and to examine more specifically the visual representations drawn in research situations. By considering the drawings' production processes, the methods and the tools they mobilise, we expect to open up epistemological questions on architectural research and on what we could call 'research by drawing'.

We are pleased to announce the launch of the call for papers for the international conference Researching beyond words. Investigating architectural research by drawing to be held on 30 November and 1 December 2023 at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Lyon.

 

This conference invites to focus on what researchers produce beyond words and to examine more specifically the visual representations drawn in research situations. By considering the drawings' production processes, the methods and the tools they mobilise, we expect to open up epistemological questions on architectural research and on what we could call 'research by drawing'.

 

This call for papers is opened to:

• researchers, doctoral students and lecturer-researchers in the fields of architecture, urban planning, landscape and land use planning.

• researchers who also question drawings within their disciplinary field (anthropology, sociology, arts, aesthetics...).

• designers who participate in research projects.
