The Society of Architectural Historians announced today that Carla Yanni has decided to step down as First Vice President of SAH. Yanni, Distinguished Professor and Director of Architectural Studies at Rutgers University, was appointed First Vice President of SAH in April 2022 after serving as Second Vice President from 2020 to 2022. She also served as a director on the SAH Board from 2004 to 2007. As an elected officer, Yanni was a member of SAH’s Executive Committee. In her capacity as First VP, Yanni served as the chair of the upcoming SAH 77th Annual International Conference in Albuquerque.
SAH is deeply grateful for Yanni’s dedicated service to the organization. “Carla embodied exemplary leadership. Her concern for the health and wellbeing of the organization was paramount in her level-headed approach to decision-making. We will miss her presence, her wisdom, and her counsel, and we wish her the best,” said SAH Executive Director Ben Thomas.
The SAH Board of Directors has voted to appoint SAH Second Vice President Mohammad Gharipour to the role of First Vice President. Gharipour is professor and director of the Architecture Program at the University of Maryland, College Park.
SAH will issue a call for nominations for Vice President.
